Julianna Shostak
Julianna Shostak was born January 14, 1923 in Kryliw, a village in Western Ukraine. She died in Camrose, AB on December 18, 2016. She was predeceased by her parents Trofim and Eva Antoniuk, her husband Harry, her brother John Antoniuk and her granddaughter Brandice Shostak Pereira.
She is survived by her sons Peter (Geraldine), Orest, Bill (Barb Pratt), Leonard (Yvette) and George (Darlene); her grandchildren Wendy, Andrew, James, Matthew, Greg, Megan, Julianna and Jilissa. She is survived by ten very special great grandchildren.
The Antoniuk family emigrated from Ukraine to Bonnyville in 1939 leaving Europe two weeks before the start of the WWII. Julianna, 16 yrs old at the time, was the eldest of seven children. On a farmstead north west of Bonnyville, the Antoniuk family started their new life.
After marrying Harry Shostak in 1942, she began her life on a farm raising her five sons.
In 1972, Harry and Julianna retired to live in Bonnyville with Harry passing away suddenly in 1973. Once George left his family home, Julianna lived on her own in Bonnyville until 1989 when she moved to Victoria. She spent the next 22 years gardening and enjoying growing the many flowers she so loved. In Victoria, she participated in many church and cultural activities as well as hosted numerous summer visitors.
In 2011, when her stamina started to fail and she was no longer able to look after her large garden; she moved back to Edmonton and later on to Camrose where she spent the last years in an assisted living facility.
She leaves to mourn her large family and many friends.
Funeral service was held in Bonnyville on Thursday, December 22, 2016. Final resting place, All Saints Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Dupre, Alberta.
