Obituary for
Katie Shalka
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Katie Shalka announces her passing on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in Bonnyville at the age of 97 years. Katie Shalka was born in Shalka, Alberta on November 29, 1919. The last 72 years of Katie’s life were happily lived out at the family farm near Fort Kent, Alberta.
Katie is lovingly survived by her children: Eileen Rose Leeds (John) and Kenneth R. Shalka; her grandchildren: Diane Orr (Rod), Brenda Leeds Binder (Bob), and Michael Leeds (Leanne). Katie will also be deeply missed by her six great grandchildren: Everett Orr, Jack Binder, Hudson Binder, Josie Binder, Eric Leeds, Kate Leeds; her two sisters, Stella Spears and Rita Harding.
Katie was predeceased by Joseph Shalka, her loving husband of 42 years; her daughter, Frances Jane Shalka; parents, Elie & Melisa (Mihalcheon)Kachuk; two brothers: Nicholas Kaye, Mack Kachuk; four sisters: Dorothy Hauca, Pearl Kachuk, Rose Price and Mary Hantiuk.
The eulogy for Katie Shalka will be at presented at 10:45 a.m., on Monday, July 3, 2017 at St Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Fort Kent followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with Father Rene Realuyo as celebrant.
Final resting place will be at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Cemetery, Fort Kent, Alberta.
