Olive Ross (Munroe)
Olive Ross (Munroe) died peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Bonnyville Extendicare at the age of 97 years.
Born November 17, 1920 in Apple Hill, Ontario, Olive was the eldest of four girls.
In 1940, Olive enlisted in the Women's Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force where she spent the Second World War as a cook at air bases in Ontario and the Maritimes. Upon discharge from the service in 1946, she enrolled in a cooking program at Ryerson Institute of Technology, coming out to
Alberta to work at Duclos Hospital in Bonnyville the following year.
In 1949, Olive married Donald Ross of Rife and they settled on the family farm in the area where they raised their three children.
Following the death of her husband in 1994, Olive moved to Bonnyville where she had resided ever since.
Olive is lovingly survived by her three children: Elsie Ross (Jim Cunningham) of Calgary, Laurence "Louie" (Donna) Ross of Rife, Allan (Shannon) Ross of Rife; five grandchildren: Scott Ross (Brenda) of Bonnyville, Nicole Gillis (Norm) of Bonnyville, Jonathan Ross (Brittany) of Edgerton, Ian Cunningham of Calgary, Collin Burns of Bonnyville; seven great grandchildren; three sisters: Alma Runions of Cornwall, Edith Thompson of Ottawa, Lorna Munroe of Ottawa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Olive was predeceased by her husband: Donald Ross in 1994; parents: John & Ida Munroe.
Funeral service, Friday, February 23, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., Memento Funeral Chapel, Bonnyville with Reverend Stephen Sparks officiating. Pallbearers: Laurence Ross, Allan Ross, Ian Cunningham, Scott Ross, Jonathan Ross, Collin Burns. Final resting place, Rife Cemetery, Rife, Alberta.
